Over the weekend Red Resort Inc. hosted a CAC developed Avalanche Skills 1 (AST1) course. The course consisted of one evening of classroom instruction and two full days in the field. The course offered an introduction to skills needed to move safely through the backcountry and respond if an avalanche occurs. Topics covered included companion rescue (using beacons/probes/shovels), picking out and understanding terrain features (simple/challenging/complex terrain), and snow stability tests.

December 11th at Big Red Cats check out the women in action with our friends from Freeride Media. It was epic, we have an amazing base and tons of white fluffy snow. You can see Betty (aka Tash) the boarder with the plaid pants - on duty as a tailguide with BRC! It was great to be out with a couple of amazing female skiers - Local hero Stephanie Gauvin and Freeride Media Team Rider Desiree Leipham.
Rossland is a town that lives and breathes the outdoors. Opening day used to be sacred; always on a Friday to ensure that the truly committed, powder junkies willing to ditch work could get a good head start on the crowds of of the weekend. The snow would be epic, not a track on the hill, virgin untracked snow just waiting for the kiss of boards to float past.
Checking through my emails the other day I came across one from Prevention.com in regards to mistakes you can make at the gym that will impede your progress. This is the second time I have come across this piece of information and as it contradicts other information thought that it would be a great one to throw at our experts.
Hoping to have this much fun on opening day tomorrow!! Thanks Roxy & Peepshow!
There's more to riding down the hill and hucking yourself when you have the goals and focus to be a champion snowboarder. Check out what the Shreducation athletes are doing to prep for a very intense season and Olympic qualification agenda.
Check out Push.ca for more information on the training programs of Shreducation.

I came across this article this morning by Matthew Timothy Bradley in Snowshoe Magazine; that I thought I would share with you avid and up and coming avid snowshoers out there.
Early season motivation for all you women out there getting amped for snowboarding! Thank you Roxy
This is the first of our series answering common training questions so we thought that we would start at the beginning.
